FDI are very pleased to announce that FDI as a business and our product has recently received full accreditation by GS1 the international bar coding standards organisation. We at FDI feel that the hard won recognition at this level is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our development team past and present in contributing to what the product has become today, a leading edged document and data manipulation tool of unparalleled capability.
Yeovil Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has recently acquired the FDI product to configure different styles of PAS labels that are printed in various locations around the Trust. UK Western region FDI solution provider Pos-itive.biz provided a fully operation pilot of the solution as a proof of concept in a very short space of time, impressing the Trusts IT staff with not only the products capability, but for the proven ability to produce the solution at a significant saving in cost and timescale over that offered by the PAS vendor.
FDI were honoured to be jointly presented with a 'Highly commended' award for the work carried out on behalf of Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to provide full GS1 Patient ID compliance across the Trust. Representing KGH at the ceremony were the two key members of the Trusts implementation team, Paula Lilburn the project lead and principle systems architect and Senior Midwife Alison Campbell who played a key role at the Trust during the implementation of the 'BabyBand' element of the Patient ID project. Also at the event were two senior representatives of GS1 the international barcoding standards body including senior consultant Roger Lamb, Paul Dixon also attended representing LaserBand and MD of FDI Steve Haynes. The wording of the award was "The capability to produce GS1 barcoding from any NHS system" This principally named activity is provided by the FDI functionality in the project.
FDI were recently selected to provide a fully GS1 compliant patient ID solution Trust wide at UHCWNHST operating from the IPM PAS system. The roll out includes mapping and supporting a number of different styles of adult, paediatric and neonatal patient solutions and labelling at this very large and modern Trust. The main business driver was to ensure full GS1 blood tracking across the Trust when the new blood tracking system is rolled out.
FDI recently announced a new and largely unique layer of PDF management technology in being able to automatically open and 'Read' PDF formatted documents in a manner that makes processing documents of this type far more automated and secure than is currently possible. How many PDF's are received in any company every day which are stored and indexed by default by leaving them attached to an e-mail in an inbox?
This technology will have far reaching ramifications in the field of supplier invoice reconciliation in that if a supplier can send an invoice in a PDF format on an e-mail, it need not be intercepted or manipulated by the recipient until its logged and indexed ready for approval in whatever system is used internally by the recipient for this process.
Paper OCR scanning will soon be a thing of the past.
It's often the case in the NHS that increasingly older systems are being asked to deliver more than they were originally capable of doing as Trusts seek to extend the working life of major systems rather than have them replaced. Often a difficulty in this area is a particular range of functionality does not exist, is too expensive to obtain or it's a remotely managed system that has key configuration functionality withheld by the vendor. In the case of KGH this technology was installed to overcome the fact that the ICS PAS system had no way of communication with modern printers by normal LPR/TCPIP printing technology and they had no ability or budget to create additional print queues.
FDI's port 9100 emulation allows the Windows server to emulate the function of a standard printer network card, fooling the PAS system that it is sending data to a normal network printer.
This technology is currently exclusive to FDI
UK based Dairy Products PLC Dairy Crest Foods have gone live with full 'Matrix style' despatch documents for key customers who require chilled goods direct to store deliveries.
FDI have provided Dairy Crest with the ability to capture standard despatch notes and based on specific account numbers, place despatch orders for certain routes into a database rather than directly printing them. When a route is ready for despatch, despatch orders for that route are used to create a single despatch document in matrix form.
UK FDI solutions Partner Pos-itive.biz rolled out a fully automated appointment reminders system at C&GFT. Under trials the system was proved to reduce DNA at some clinics by nearly 60%
The release and 'Go live' of the FDI and LaserBand 'BabyBand' solution at KGHFT caused a significant stir of interest on TV news and in the media in general.
FDI are the first to roll out a band of verification technology that will significantly improve the accuracy of all data surrounding an application using Barcoding technology of all types, but specifically GS1 types. The technology will automatically adjust the barcode module resolution depending on a number of factors, not least the printer resolution printing the barcode and the proximity of other data.
It will also confirm that all GS1 AI's are in place and in the correct format as well as confirming that important data is provided in the correct sequence and format which is crucial for NHS patient safety applications such as Patient ID Wristbands.
FDI applications now have the added advantage of programmable audit trails and system error alerts. This means that every single item of system connectivity can be recorded in an audit trail for later interrogation if required, with the developer being able to choose what type of activity is logged and what it says.
The system can be programmed to send e-mail /SMS alerts should certain key words such as 'Error' appear in the audit trail, alerting FDI support or key users that investigation of a potential issue should be investigated.
FDI's technical Director announced that a new release of FDI now contains an advance scripting facility that increases FDI's capability to another level.
Part of the new scripting process can call external functions and programs while another new facility can maintain output forms and data in a single library any form being able to be called by any part of the scripting process as and when required.
FDI's technical director has now announced that FDI now has the full capability to produce PDF output directly as system files rather than relying on an external PDF utility or driver.
International private banking organisation Standard Bank (Jersey) go fully live on SAP using FDI to format and produce many types of reports for clients, also SB use the FDI archiving module for storing client specific banking information and documents
